Right Through the Pack
Published in Paperback by Baron/Barclay Bridge Supplies (January, 1996)
Authors: Darvas, De V. Hart, and R Darvas
Average review score:

Brain candy!
The "plot" of the book is each of the 52 cards in a deck telling of a bridge hand where they were the critical card. Most of the hands teach a subtle point of play (to my casual bridge skills) such as forcing an opponent to lead into your tenace position to avoid the finess and squeezing the opponents (both beyond my skills). I got an appreciation for how much more there can be in a hand. The other hands are just plain hysterical. I won't spoil them by revealing too much, but imagine bidding and making seven hearts missing both the ace of diamonds and the ace of hearts! The chapters are short which makes reading a chapter or two before I go to sleep easy - my kind of book. I have a long list of books in progress, but this one quickly jumped to the top of the list to finish.

Right Through the Pack
Great book to read for any level bridge player (or at least I think so, since I am a beginner). The bridge was a side note to the the stories, but if you like good stories and a little bridge this is a great book for you.

The cards talk!
Literally! Each one of the cards in the pack has a story to tell. The play ranges from amusing to wonderful. Right through the Pack is probably in everyone's top ten all-time bridge books.

One of the Best Books of Its Kind
The scientific explanations are crystal clear, the advice thoughtful and lucid, and the writing exemplary. This is an excellent book about the mysterious chemistry of the brain and how naturally to enhance your levels of serotonin.

Praise from "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain" Author
Congrats on a good review of this neurotransmitter that is so key in so much of how we behave, and which can be influenced by so many things around us. Nice focus. Recommend "The Care and Feeding of Your Brain" for a general view of all things that affect the brain and behavior...Kenneth Giuffre MD

A lifesaver for me!
I had suffered from depression for more than 25 years, off and on, and finally I was put on anti-depressants. I hated the side effects and eventually had to quit the meds. I came across this book, just a small mass produced paperback book and the information, although simple has changed my life. I no longer have mood swings, dark brooding periods or headaches. The author takes a lot of time to explain the physiology behind it all. If the science is too much for the reader than he/she can just get to the nitty gritty of it all. The method she proposes is simple for anyone to follow. My husband was very skeptical about a book changing one's life but I had no choice but to give a chance. I'm forever grateful to the author for writing this book. My family has a wife and mother now who isn't a Jekyll and Hyde show.

Average review score:

In your pocket when you need it.
Written specifically for the police, this vest pocket sized booklet will help you in important situations where language may be an obstacle. Easy to read and easy to use.
Small type as would be expected for a small book.
Check out their booklet for corrections officers as well.

speedy spanish for police personal
Make no mistake about it, if you want to learn the Spanish quickly this is one of the best books to start with. Forget the verbs, adjectives, nouns and pronouns. Start conversational Spanish now. I teach "Command Spanish" and this is a great compliment for Police Education.

Absolutely Necessary!
This little flip book goes with me everywhere. I frequently come n contact with hispanic individuals and this book allows me to interact competently and doesn't allow the subject they "No Comprende" response. It does take some work pronouncing correctly but the english phrase and the spanish coutnerpart are listed as witha pronunciation line which speaking the phrase easy even for the language inept ones out there. And for the price, Why not?

Stone Warriors Rule! (Gargoyles, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (November, 1995)
Authors: Paul Mantell and Avery Hart
Average review score:

Characters
The book is very interesting. The characters are Xanantos, Demona, Goliath, Hudson, Broadway, Bronx, Brooklyn, Lexington, and Elisa. I'de rate it at 20! You'll love it. Read read read. Get a used copy.

GARGOYLES Defenders of the Night
This is a great book about the hit TV Disney series "Gargoyles". It's not the usual Disney tone which makes it more unique and fascinating. They are defenders of the night waking up in Manhattan after being in stone sleep for a millenium. You definitely should read this book.

Gargoyles' survival
From medievel Scotland to modern-day America a clan of Gargoyles learns a new way of life, one that is completely different from the one they left and hard to comprehend. With the help of their human friend, Eliza Masa, they learn to adapt. The book is faithful to the tv cartoon series, as are the illustrations depicting the Gargoyle clan.

Ten Sisters : A True Story
Published in Paperback by Mayhaven Pub (01 September, 1999)
Authors: Virginia Ruth Waggoner Rackley, Pauline Ariel, Audrey Alford, Vera Barber, Phyllis Ferguson, Delorse Hart, Irma Swirk, Mary Hickmott, Rhita Brniak, and Lana Hill

A Pleasure to Meet Such Gifted Women
I became interested in "Ten Sisters" when I noticed that the story took place in my home state of Illinois, but specifically central Illinois. I just graduated from EIU which is located in Charleston and just next door to Mattoon. Reading about the Waggoners in those towns was such a joy, but meeting nine of the sisters was an even greater honor. They signed my book at the mall in Mattoon and were extremely gracious at my interest in their stories. I wasn't able to finish the novel before I met them, but even so, reading the chapters after I had met the authors gave the book a personal touch. I was in disbelief at some of the personal trials they went through. It is amazing that any of them survived so much heartache and uncertainty! My favorite aspect of the book is how Jenny and the older sisters wrote about the same period of time, but by the time you get to Vera's, Audrey's, and Doris' chapters, you are set in a completely different timeframe with completely different lifestyles. It is amazing how so many different stories come out of one very close, very special family. They told me that they will be coming out with an audio version of the book and they'll be featured in a popular women's magazine in Nov. or Dec. I'll be sure to check it out, and you should too!

This made a great English Project!!!
I really don't like to read...let alone do a report on something that I have read! I don't know why, but I actually like doing it for this book...... It has some really funny, sad, and just odd things in it. I mean who would have a pet goat as a kid? I am in Highschool and lots of my friends and teachers were all dying to read this book. I would sit in class and read bits and pieces and the kids around me would always want to hear more...it was weird! Stuff like having a boxing ring in the front yard, or ten sisters sleeping in one bed not knowing who wet the bed in the morning...for some reason that sparked their interest???? Then there was the sad stuff in the book that was described in detail. It really made me learn a lot more then I already knew about these ladies, it's like stepping into their shoes (although they didn't wear them too often) I really like the book, after I read it there were just soo many things to tell about it in the report I did for my sophmore English class that it ended up getting an "A"...which is odd for me! :) This book is great...there are just soo many things to like about it, so many stories. The part I really like about the book though was that sometimes the sisters had different view points about the story, it was kinda neat to see what each one said about certain things...if they remembered or included it. And living in Iowa, it was a big highlight of my life...not many things can do that here! thanx-AM

A heart-warming look at real life.
Courage comes at an early age... these women had it in 1942 and even today display that same courage. As I know each one of these women personnally, my review may be a bit biased...but anyone that reads this work will see that I am only telling the facts. Each sister is a remarkable work of art. This book is a true "Love story" about "Family" and the meaning it gives to our lives. "Divided" as a family at such an early age has given great meaning to "togetherness" as each sister worked their way from mid 20th Century to present day.... Their style of writing is free and bold as they tell of perceptions and feelings. Just to get ten sisters to sit down and author a book together is almost fiction. Yet again their spirit of "one for all" won out, and I, a reader won too. This book is "true LIFE" at its worst, and best

Wander
Published in Paperback by Yearling Books (April, 2000)
Author: Susan Hart Lindquist
Average review score:

A five star story!
Wander will grip young readers and won't let them go. A sensitive story of grief and loss and the need for comfort, Wander is sure to capture the readers' attention as well as their hearts until the very last page. Susan Hart Lindquist is a talented author and Wander is one story not to be missed.

Two children who long for a pet save a stray dog
Susan Lindquist's novel Wander is gentle, quiet and yet the characters and setting are so real that young readers will feel as if they are wandering with James and little Sary along the river, through the birch forest and across the fields. Like children in the novel, they will glimpse with love and concern the stray dog Wander who only occasionally ventures out of the bracken for fear of being taken by a man who believes that a stray is killing his sheep. The writing is straight forward and lucid. A lovely read.

WANDER is not just a dog story!
Wander is written with an ear to the voice of the main character James. Though the author never falls into the maudlin traps of sentimentality, she captures the anquish and vulnerability of a pre teen boy dealing with the loss of his mother. The dog is intrical to the plot, but never does the book become "just another dog story" Rather it is a story of loss and acceptance, family and the power of memory in healing grief. It is humorous enough to keep your tears at bay, yet powerful enough to evoke compassion for the characters as if they were actually people you knew. It is a fine read for children nine and over, and their parents as well.

Who Gets to Marry Max (American Romance, 843)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (September, 2000)
Author: Neesa Hart
Average review score:

Very passionate and exciting
I really like Neesa Hart, and this was one of her better books. Max is a very sexy, brooding hero. The love scenes and sparks between him and Sidney, the heroine, are great. I loved the way her uncle, Max's butler, schemed to get them together.

Outstanding, emotionally intense read.
This is one of the best romances of any genre I've read this year, and by far the best short contemporary romance I've read in a couple of years. I'm always looking for an intense emotional connection between the hero and heroine in a romance, and this book has that in spades. Max is a wonderful hero: powerful and magnetic, generous and protective of his family and friends, and sexy as heck! I'm definitely going to be looking for other titles by this talented author!

Wonderful!!!!
This book was really good!!! Right from the begining I was hooked. It had love, romance, everything a person loves in a book..I loved the way the romance betweeb Max and Sidney grew and how it captures attention from the reader. Again this book was excellent....

Best Book Around for Resume Writing and Job Satisfaction
Best book around I've ever seen on resume writing when job satisfaction, preferences, and career choice are all matched by interests and job tasks. This book outshines them all and goes beyond resumes to finding the right job in the right place at the right time.

Very helpful for the homebased senior citizens re-entering.
Very helpful advice for retirees re-entering job market in computers, including the homebased. I was able to use templates to transfer skills from job pre-retirement to post-retirement re-entry position. Great structure to resumes for people seeking alternative to 9 to 5 work as well as regular jobs. Helpful to boomers seeking to simplify workstyle as well as other age resume writers. Excellent book written by senior citizen homebased with multiple disabilities with very resourceful, creative topics and research.

Excellent book on finding a job in cyberspace.
I rate this book a 10, excellent for finding a job in the world of cyberspace, the Internet, multimedia, and in the computer industry, especially matching your preferences to the requirements and needs of a computer industry corporation.

It includes excellent advice for all computer personnel, especially for technical and science writers, hyptertext fiction writers for multimedia and entertainment technology industries, and both the creative side of the computer industry as well as the logistics part. Great book for finding your career according to your needs and how to match your preferences to the special requirements of the up-to-date aspects of the entire computer and entertainment technology and Internet industries.

The 100
Published in Hardcover by Carol Pub. Corp. (March, 1989)
Author: Michael H. Hart
Average review score:

Good Book
This book is a great listing of the most Influential people in history. I do have some quibbles with who Mr.Hart put on the list, or where he ranked some of them. But then, it isn't my listing. Hart intends the book to be the beginning of discussion, not the end. He has succeded.

I do like how Hart places a great emphesis on science and technology, as I do see these as the driving forces of history. Without scientific advancement, then certain things just wouldn't exist now a days... things that we think have no connection with science. The ability to communicate quickly, travel quickly, etc. Alone makes many of the things we take for granted now possible and in the past poeple wouldn't have dared to dream those things could have occured.

I own both of the major editions of this book. It is too bad that the work is out of print now, as it deservers to stay in print and be updated.

Great book
Book is excellent - Especially objective of popular versus 'influence'

Adrenaline and Stress
Published in Paperback by Word Publishing (July, 1995)
Author: Archibald Hart
Average review score:

Practical, informative, wise, enjoyable.
Although Mr. Hart is a Christian, it isn't until the last chapter that he writes about Christianity's effect on reducing stress. This is intentionally and effectively done. Nonetheless, I found this book incredibly informative with lots of practical advice well explained. I immediately realized why it took me the first four days of a vacation to settle down and why I tend to have a stress headache on most saturdays. I have intentionally tried a few of his suggestions and they work. I recommend this book to anyone, especially those who have been accused of being type A. I am not type A and I am a Christian. I found this book very enjoyable.

A Lifesaver
Well informed, somewhat technical read. Teaches what stress really is and the impact on our whole life: physical, emotional, personal, professional. Helps one to learn to calm down and handle difficulties with more finesse by being more aware of our blood pressure, heart rate, anxiety level, etc. The result? When practiced properly: happiness has room to grow as well as peace of mind and deeper confidence/competence in meeting deadlines and many of the endless demands upon us.
